As this recent encounter with a fox showed, nature has wonderful ways of reminding us that this world is a shared experience.

There’s nothing quite like the haunting call of the loon or seeing them glide by on a lake. However, for the birds’ protection, the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department is asking boaters and anglers to enjoy loons from a safe distance this summer.

Students often have to head outside to observe wildlife, but in the case of one U.S. elementary school, the wildlife comes to them — every year. 

Turtles can make good pets, but Vermont wildlife officials are asking people to let native turtles remain in their natural habitat. That said, the public can help the state track the activity of rare species.
