Vermont, known for its dedication to the environment, got the ultimate confirmation this week that a majestic, and long-endangered animal within its borders has surged into a full recovery.

Peregrine falcons came off the state's endangered species list over 15 years ago, but protecting their nesting sites is a crucial part of completing that long journey.

The state of Vermont recently established its 100th Wildlife Management Area, an announcement which also comes during the state's 100th year of conserving these natural habitats in the Green Mountains. 

Returning loons are busy staking out their territory at lakes around Vermont, and volunteers with the Vermont Center for Ecostudies are busy observing them.
